Fellowship Application for the 2024-2026 cohort is now closed.
Thank you for your interest in the California Local News Fellowship.
We seek early-career digital, print, video, audio, photo and multimedia journalists for the California Local News Fellowship to work in local newsrooms across the state. Our fellows earn a full-time salary and benefits from the University of California for two years and receive intensive mentoring, training, and support from experienced journalism leaders.
Successful applicants will have demonstrated core reporting skills, a commitment to a career in journalism, and an interest in reporting in underserved communities.
Ideal candidates will have strong shooting, editing, and producing skills, along with the ability to create video in a range of formats (quick turnaround news pieces, longer form mini-documentaries, and short social media content). Video fellows will not be assigned to a specific news outlet, but will work as part of a small production team.
